Nov 14 in class activity:
East side grader: Read and explain why this paper is 7 to your partner (assault; example 9)
West side grader: Read and explain why this paper (example 10) is a 7 to your partner
Can also read Sample B or Sample D (annotated) in this folder
If you have time read another 7 paper from 2015-2018 WA papers that scored a 7 and explain what tendencies you see in the best papers
THEN
Read your partner's outline/intro/etc and score it using the WA rubric
Ask/answer these questions on your partner's outline & then have a 4 min chat with partner:
1)Explain if/ how the topic is literary enough in nature (does it appreciate the writer's choices)?
2) Does their topic matter/have significance?
3) What is your sense of their central argumentative mission (in your own words in a sentence)?
4) What do you think is their best text quote/reference and why (what does it prove argumentatively)
4b) What is their best line of argument or insight?
5) Can you justify or criticize their structural approach (is the paper organized to be purposeful)?
Also check:
Does the text written on in the RS match the text addressed for the WA?
Does the works cited include the translator's name?
Is the paper consistently in Times New Roman?
Are they mostly using the PEA structure (point/claim, evidence, analysis) structure in most body paragraphs?
Does the RS feel like it could score a 3/3?
Does their topic need to be narrowed in its focus (or are their other relevant points/zones the paper should seek to get to)?
Is their WA essay title informative/helpful and assertive (conveys the argumentative direction and a literary purpose)?
